Covid has created significant challenges for those running sporting events, and in some cases cancelled them all together, however that does not necessarily need to be the case.
Some sports lend themselves really well to running virtual / digital events, in particular individual sports or activities where participants can be filmed separately and footage compiled as if it were live on an agreed screening day.
In 2020 Olympian Media worked in partnership with British Freestyle to deliver the first ever virtual jetski championships, enabling the new 2020 British Freestyle champions to be crowned across four classes. And the event had global appeal, attracting competitors from around the world and more than 20,000 viewers. See the event for yourself here
Virtual events are possible for any activities or sports where individuals are judged individually, and can be filmed individually according to pre-agreed competition rules or submit their own footage.
